FILM, EXCURSION AND PAGEANT OPERATIONS

 

 


1967-1976  

Alta Loma, California

 

Started private operation on 1/2 mile of leased
Santa Fe Spur Line. Moved Locomotive No. 1 to Pomona Antiques
and Collectors Festival, L.A. County Fairgrounds, Pomona, Calif.
for a four day exhibit. Started relationship with the film industry.
Filmed Sandburg’s Lincoln at Alta Loma and Perris, California.

1976  

Virginia and Truckee Railroad, Virginia
City, Nevada

 

Provided Locomotive No. 8, two excursion cars,
Passenger Caboose No. 10 and Railbus No. 50 “Washoe Zephyr”
to the newly started V & T R R tourist operation.

1976-1985  

Sierra Railroad and California State Railroad
Museum

 

Moved collection to the Sierra Railroad, Jamestown,
California to expand film and excursion opportunities. Engaged
as film location agent for the Sierra Railroad. Utilized equipment
in several films and a special excursions. Moved Locomotive No.
8 to Sacramento in 1981 to participate in Railfair Sacramento
celebrating the opening of the California State Railroad Museum.
Participated in Railfair II in 1982. While No. 8 was at Sacramento
we filmed Chattanooga Choo Choo and then moved it to Deer Lodge,
Montana to participate in a week long celebration of the Centennial
of the Last Spike on the Northern Pacific Railroad. No. 8 was
returned to the Sierra Railroad for further film and excursion
work in 1985.

1983  

Northern Pacific Railroad Centennial –
Deer Lodge, Montana

 

Dressed SLE Locomotive No.8 as Northern Pacific
Railroad Last Spike Locomotive for centennial celebration of
Last Spike Ceremony staged at Deer Lodge, Montana. Moved No 8
to Deer Lodge from CSRM, Sacramneto, CA and returned. locomotive
operated under steam for week of celebrations.

1985-1990  

Newhall Ranch Movie Train – Valencia, California

 

Acquired contemporary locomotives and cars
to pursue film business in Southern California per business plan.
Operation had approximately 4 miles of track, a 200 foot pin
connected truss bridge, and a short wooden trestle. Yard trackage
was added. More than 70 films, television series, commercials
and music videos were shot on this location. Special dinner/party
trains were also been operated.

1985  

Palace Station Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada

 

Moved Nevada State Railroad Museum Locomotive
No. 22 to Las Vegas for Grand Opening of Palace Station Casino,
Locomotive was set up on track and kept under steam for the celebration.

1986  

Expo 86 – Vancouver, BC

 

Moved Nevada State Railroad Museum Locomotive
No. 22 and Passenger Caboose No. 9 to Vancouver, BC to participate
in Steam Expo, a special event of Expo 86. Locomotive was under
steam for 12 days and pulled Caboose 9 in the Grand Parade.

1990-1997  

Santa Paula Branch

 

Moved Newhall Ranch Movie Train operations
to SP’s Santa Paula Branch first at Piru then in 1991 at Fillmore.
Expanded collection and made 170 films, TV episodes, commercials
and other productions on and off the branch.

1997-Present  

Various

 

Train coordinator for Coen Bros. Feature film
O Brother Where Art Thou? Filmed on Columbus & Greenville
RR near Greenville, Mississippi.

 

December 2010, Pony Express travelled from Winslow, Arizona to Washington DC to participate in the Liberty Limited, a special train of Private Cars that took Wounded warriors from Walter Reed and Bethesda hospitals to Philadelphia for the Army-Navy Game. a most humbling experience.
