Transportation to Ford Ranch, Galisteo, NM
All equipment was moved by truck from Reader,
AR to Ford Ranch and return. A major winter storm hit New Mexico
and Texas while equipment was on the move and the locomotive
and cars were stranded in various locations across
Ford Ranch operations
38 inches of snow buried the town of Contention
and the RR from the afternoon of Dec 28 through the day of Dec
30. It was 2 days before crews could start clearing the set and
2 more beyond that before I could start moving equipment onto
the track. After clearing the the snow off the track the sun
warmed the ground during the day and runoff from the surrounding
snow created deep adobe mud. It would freeze at night when temps
went below zero. This made for extremely difficult working conditions
The engine was kept hot 24 hours a day from
Jan 11 to Jan 18, 2007.
